Chef's Uniforms and Just Why they are a Must Have

Chefs all over the world have identical uniforms made up of a long tuque, double breast coat, checked trousers and white apron. This fact makes them recognizable at a distance and this happens to be what they wear as a long as they are still working as chefs. This outfit has an origin and every part of it was created out of need and remained the tradition to date.

First is the tuque which is the most conspicuous item in the outfit. It has many folds 100 to be precise and this many represent different ways in which an egg can be prepared. They were invented in the 18th century but little was known about them until the 19th century when the currently used design was invented by a famous French chef going by the name Marie Antoine Crème.

The coat is made from thick cotton and acts as a protective gear to shield the wearer from hot liquids and the heat produced by the cookers. It is double breasted to ensure that dirt can be concealed by reversing it. The checked trousers on the other hand are believed to have the same tooth checked pattern and this was necessary in order to hide stains. Next there is the apron which was also developed as protective gear to ensure that the chef does get burns from hot spilling liquids. Also, the black chef jacket is also protects the rest of the outfit from dirt and stains. Finally is a necktie which in the early days was used to mop out sweat from the chefs forehead. This function was however discouraged by the health laws in many countries, because it was considered an unhealthy practice.
Today, neckties are still being worn for aesthetic value and their previous function has been replaced by a head band tied around the forehead. Besides the necktie and trousers, the other cloths are usually white in color and this denotes cleanliness, just like the case for doctors. In the recent past however, most people have started to divert from the tradition by adding more style according to their preference or that of their employer. The parts of the uniform however remain unchanged and still reflect their traditional functions.

Black chef trousers differ from industrial ones by the material they are made of which is cloth. Factory workers use leather trousers to protect themselves from chemicals while people working with X-ray machines use lead aprons to shield them from the radiation. In fact the use of aprons has shifted from homes to industries in the modern world because of the introduction of machines meaning that house work is no longer done manually. Besides their protective function, aprons are nowadays used by chefs and waiters to store their accessories, making their movements around the establishment much easier. In fact, most restaurants require their employees to be in aprons both in the kitchen and in the eating lobby. This explains why most of them come with many pockets and besides the convenience of storage these pockets also add aesthetic value to the waiters' and waitress' outfit which in away contribute towards pleasing customers.

Black chef trousers are an important element of cook uniform made of lightweight cotton or combined content. Loose and comfortable size is recognized as the best black chef jacket guaranteeing that the cook would have no problems while working. Regarding the color, nothing has said.
